This is Book #6 in the series and I've been following Kate from the very beginning. She's a strong, feisty heroine who doesn't take crap from anyone, but yet she's lonely. For reasons in her past that I can't mention here without spoiling the series...lets just say people around her get killed.
I was really torn up on the review for this book. Don't get me wrong, Husband and Wife writing team always suck me in to the story and I love that. However, unlike past Kate Daniels books....there are several different tragedies that strike. Tragedies that will affect future books. There wasn't any nice, clean, happy ending that I've come to expect.
This book is darker, grittier, and full of non-stop action and drama. There were at least two different parts in the story, where I'll admit that I cried like a baby.
This book questions Curran's loyalites, Kate's devotion, the pack, the cure for shape-shifting children who go Loup. For me, it was still a great book, but I haven't re-listened to my audio version again yet because its very raw. If you're expecting a happy, everything is great ending....you aren't going to get that with this one. Some things do get resolved but it was all very bittersweet to me and there was a character death that I did not see coming.
If you can put on your big girl panties (or briefs for any male viewers) and you like the series already you'll still enjoy this read....you just might feel a bittersweet pang, and an ache in the chest that lasts for days.
Still a highly recommended read. Looking forward to seeing where Ilona and Andrew take the plotline, as I was left with more questions than answers.....
